Creating Your Own Definition for Success

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of taking the first half of a Financial Prosperity course taught by Maryam Hasnaa. In this course, we brought our attention inward and focused on our relationships with money and wealth in order to identify personal blocks, wounds and subconscious programs that prevent us from being who we really are and showing up fully in service. The class was so beneficial and heart-centered that I unexpectedly found myself in tears throughout it. By the end of the class, I walked away with several “homework assignments,” one in particular being to take a moment to create a personal definition of what success is and how that feels to me. I think we can get engrossed in trying to live up to other people’s ideas of success or what society tells us being successful is: the acquisition of things, more money, having “status,” a fancy job title, staying busy, acclaim from your peers, etc, however, reality is, focusing on attaining success through external means ultimately leaves you shrouded in layers of illusion and distractions. Now there is nothing wrong in wanting those things, but personally, I don’t find any sense of fulfillment or satisfaction of purpose in their pursuit. You can’t cultivate inner peace and joy through external gain. We’re here to live authentically as ourselves and to speak our own truths, not to abide by standards that you didn’t even agree on to begin with.

At its core, this act of creating your own definition of success is energy work. You’re creating an energetic signature or a frequency that you can align with, which ultimately, will magnetize more situations and experiences that reflect your definition of success into your life.

So for this exercise, I sat down and simply asked myself, “What is success?” I took about about five minutes and just let my mind come up with answers. Then I wrote down everything I remembered. I figured I would share here, as well.

The following is an intention set forth for what success looks and feels like as defined by my own standards. This serves as my personal tuning fork in the sense that it will provide a foundation for me to tune myself to my own frequency of success and allow me to have a clear vision and understanding for what success is.

My Definition of Success

Success is my birthright.

Success is love. It’s being surrounded by the right people, people who you are free to be yourself around without judgment. It’s having people in your life who exchange energy equally. There’s listening and understanding. There’s transparency and honesty. No masks.

Success is the right people and ideas coming together in divine order to create projects that leave an impact and are in alignment with the highest level of good for all.

Success is being in flow, where ideas and opportunities that resonate and inspire action are magnetized to you.

Success is freedom. It’s the freedom to be able to do more than just take care of your basic needs. It’s the ability to be able to offer a helping hand to others.

Success is joy. It’s being filled up with radiant energy, spending your days doing the things that fuel your soul and make you happy.

Success is sharing space with other divine beings. It’s being surrounded by others who are doing the work and mirroring back to you the areas that you need to attend to.

Success is contributing to the upliftment of all people, not just yourself. It’s doing your part to make the world a better place.

Success is being in perpetual states of awe, curiosity and wonder. It’s about not settling for comfort, but continually exploring and expanding. It’s about being adventurous. It’s being free from attachment.

Success is eating good food that nourishes the body. It’s being disciplined and treating yourself with care, yet being gentle with yourself if you do make mistakes.

Success is being intentional in all that you do. It’s being aware of the actions you take and the reactions you make in response to situations that come into your path. It’s tuning your own vibration and being in your power, not allowing external circumstances to determine how you feel.

Success is having an open heart space. It’s shifting your focus to the areas where your life is flowing and things are going well.

Success is putting your own needs first and not playing small to make other people feel comfortable. It’s being true and authentic to who you are and not compromising or selling out.

Success is being in alignment.

And so it is.

How does success feel to you? If you’ve never created your own definition, what better time to do that than now.
